Hamburg Freezers vs. Adler Mannheim 6:3 (1:1, 4:0, 1:2)

Adler Lose 3:6 in Hamburg

The Adler cashiered their third loss of the current season on Friday in Hamburg by a score of 6:3. Marcus Kink, Jochen Hecht, and Matthias Plachta scored for the Adler.

Mannheim started the game with a quick goal from Marcus Kink. Kink deflected a shot from Nikolai Goc into the net with only 22 seconds played, 0:1 (1 minute). The early goal seemed to put Hamburg in shock and it took them until the five minute mark to shake it off. Matt Pettinger tied the score on a Hamburg Power-Play around the midway point of the period, 1:1 (13 minute, man-advantage). Both teams had their share of chances during the remainder of the Period and the score remained a one to one tie at the first break.

The Second Period was not the Adler’s Period. Hamburg started out strong with a goal from Thomas Oppenheimer in the first minute of play, 2:1 (21 minute). Nicolas Kraemmer scored for the Freezers two minutes later, 3:1 (23 minute). Midway through the Period Patrick Pohl added to the Freezers lead, 4:1 (29 minute). The Adler were forced to open up more in the defensive zone as they attempted to create more chances on goal. Hamburg was able to take advantage of the situation and further build on their lead with a goal from Jerome Flaake, 5:1 (35 minute). After the fifth Hamburg goal Adler Trainer, Geoff Ward pulled Dennis Endras out of goal and replaced him with Youri Ziffzer.

Mannheim had a better Third Period with a Power-Play goal from Jochen Hecht, 5:2 (51 minute, man-advantage) and a goal from Matthias Plachta, 6:3 (54 minute) but it was not enough to catch up to Hamburg who also had a Power-Play goal in the Third from Matt Pettinger, 6:2 (53 minute, man-advantage). The game ended with a final score of 6:3 for the Freezers. The Three Stars of the Game were all from Hamburg. The First Star was Thomas Oppenheimer, Second Star Matthew Pettinger, and Third Star Mathieu Roy.

The Adler return home to the SAP Arena on Sunday, 26 October when they will host the Krefeld Pinguine. The puck is scheduled to drop at 17:45.

750 DEL Games for Ronny Arendt

Ronny Arendt played in his 750th DEL game on Friday, 17 October. The 33 year old winger is currently playing in his tenth DEL season. Since his transfer to Mannheim in the summer of 2005 he has scored 92 goals and tallied 133 assists for the Adler.

Before his time in Mannheim, Arendt played in the DEL for the Berlin Capitals and the Augsburg Panther.

Glen Metropolit is Player of the Month for September

The result was clear. The Fans of the Adler Mannheim voted the team’s best scorer to Player of the Month for September. Glen Metropolit had two goals and ten assists in the first six games of the DEL season. He also took over the record for the oldest Mannheim player to score in a game, in the history of Mannheim hockey. On 21 September during the 7:3 home win against Wolfsburg he bypassed Bruno Guttowski who scored his last goal for Mannheim in January 1964 at the age of 39 years and two months old. Metropolit was 40 years, two months, and 26 days old when he scored against Wolfsburg.

His statistics are the result of outstanding puck control and a super eye for the location of his teammates on the ice. This is one of the things that makes him such a valuable asset to the Adler.
